One exam for all government Jobs | National Recruitment Agency announced in Budget 2020

In this article, I will inform you about the key details that have emerged from the announcement of the so-called National Recruitment Agency in the Union Budget 2020 and how it will change the process of government recruitment exams in the country.

Why National Recruitment Agency?

Let us first try to understand, why the government felt the need to introduce the National Recruitment Agency. There are broadly two reasons for this:

  1. To avoid multiple exams, as they are costly, both for the government and aspirants: It is widely known and understood that in India, a student has to give multiple government job recruitment exams if he/she wants to increase their chances of securing a job. Due to this, a lot of money is wasted on these multiple exams, both by the government and the students themselves.
  2. To avoid the lengthy selection process: The selection process for a majority of central government jobs like those of the SSC and the railways are quite long. This makes it difficult for the candidates to pay proper attention to the exams they are preparing for, as in most cases the students are preparing for multiple exams simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities of the NRA:

  1. Similar to the National Testing Agency: The agency will work in a similar way as the National Testing Agency which mainly conducts the entrance exams for admissions in colleges such as the prestigious JEE Mains exams.
  2. Will conduct a computer-based Common Eligibility Test: The organization will conduct a computer-based Common Eligibility Test or the CET.
  3. It will develop a quick and streamlined recruitment process: The current recruitment process for central government jobs is highly unorganized and varies for different posts and departments. The NRA will likely streamline the process and make it easier for aspirants to focus more on their preparation and less in the selection process.

Only for Non-Gazetted posts:

  • It will look after the hiring of Non-Gazetted posts only. Officer level jobs such as those recruited by the UPSC CSE and other state PCS won't be affected.
  • It will cover GroupB, Group C and Group D post only.
  • Banking, SSC and Railway exams will all take place at once, as stated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi himself.

Conclusion:

  • Present exams which are underway will most likely not be affected.
  • The NRA is expected to start working for the year 2021.
  • The government aims to set up at least one test centre in every district.
